Susan Palmer, 61, died in Huntington Beach in a horrific DUI crash on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at 9:25 p.m.
The beloved Huntington Beach teacher was a backseat passenger of a 2016 Kia Soul. The car was traveling southbound on Gothard Street when it was struck by 2013 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 17-year-old boy. The Rogue was traveling northbound and going the wrong way in the same lane as the Soul. The vehicles collided near Cedar Avenue.
The DUI crash caused major damage to both vehicles. Palmer suffered major internal injuries. Paramedics transported her to UCI Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver and other passenger in the front of the Soul had minor injuries, as did teen driver of the Rogue.
After responding police examined the 17-year old, they arrested him for suspicion of felony DUI (driving under the influence) and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Palmer leaves behind her husband, professional musician Johnny “Ace” Palmer, and two daughters, one of whom recently became engaged. Her neighbors and friends are mourning.
