William Kimmel Injured After Stealing Car with Two Friends Ends in A Ditch

A 40-minute pursuit of three suspects who stole a vehicle on Sunday, February 9, ended with the driver injured and the car in a ditch in Bardolph.

At 11:32 p.m. a resident of the 1400 block of East 1600 Street in rural Macomb Township reported a burglary. The victim of the burglary also told police that he witnessed his vehicle being stolen and heading northbound on East 1600 Street.

A Deputy on duty for McDonough County located the suspects and the car near the Bushnell Police Department. After trying to stop the suspects, they sped from the scene after the deputy stepped out of his car.

Shortly after this occurred, another McDonough County Deputy spotted the vehicle as it drove through a field near East 1800 Street and North 1300 Street.

As the vehicle headed northbound into Bardolph, the driver turned off the headlights and subsequently ended up in a ditch. This occurred at the intersection of Hanna Street and Poplar Street.

Two occupants of the car fled, leaving the injured driver at the scene.

By 12:12 a.m. all suspects had been apprehended. The 19-year-old driver identified as William Kimmel of Loami was taken to McDonough District Hospital for minor injuries sustained when the car wrecked. When he was released, he was taken into custody by law enforcement.

The passengers in the car were identified as Mason Fuller of Ipava and Christopher Fernandez of Bardolph.

Fuller is currently being held on a $20,000 cash bond at the McDonough County Jail.

Kimmel, whose charges also included aggravated reckless driving and multiple traffic violations is currently being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
