The Texas Department of Public Safety has formally identified the man who was involved in a single-car accident on Monday, February 10.

The accident occurred at around 4:00 a.m. in Smith County, about two miles west of Overton.

Police identified 23-year-old Devin Dion Williams of Arp as the victim. Williams was driving a 2011 Dodge Durango traveling west on Farm-to-Market Road 850.

Judge Meredith pronounced Williams dead at the scene of the accident. His body was transported to Lighthouse Mortuary Funeral Home.

Taking precautions if you must drive in bad weather is important. Taking your time and planning can save you a lot of stress in bad weather. If you are not in a hurry to get somewhere then you will not be tempted to speed.

In bad weather, it is imperative that you watch your speed. The tires get less traction on the road during rain and snow, which can cause hydroplaning or sliding.

Make sure that your lights are on during bad weather, regardless of the time of day. This helps other drivers see you and you can see them.

Make sure that under any and all circumstances that you are using your seat belt. The seat belt is designed to help in accidents and keep you safe. Without a seat belt, it is possible for a person to go through the windshield in the event of a collision.

There was no report as to the speed in which Williams was traveling when he ended up running off the road, nor was there any indication that he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
