The police have shared the identity of the driver who died in a car crash that had taken place this past Sunday. The deceased driver has been identified as Marcus Welch, 24, of Grand Rapids.
The accident took place on the U.S. 131 in Wyoming at around 4:50 p.m. The weekend was marked by adverse weather conditions, increasing the likelihood of road hazards. Welch apparently lost control of his vehicle near the 54th Street SW while driving in snowy weather. His vehicle then hit the cement median barrier. However, this didn’t bring the vehicle to a halt. It continued to spin and was then hit by another vehicle.
Welch was riding alone in his vehicle and sustained critical injuries following the accident. He died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the other southbound vehicle that struck Welch’s car remained safe and didn’t incur any injuries.
In the wake of the crash, the U.S. 131 was closed for nearly 90 minutes. Law enforcement agencies reached the site soon after the crash and began investigating the incident. The investigations are still ongoing, led by the Wyoming Department of Public Safety. Although weather is considered the key factor in causing the crash, the authorities are also looking at other likely causes.
Authorities had released a winter weather advisory for Sunday. The advisory asked Kent County residents to expect adverse weather conditions from noon onwards. It was in this time bracket that this unfortunate accident took place.
