Monday, February 17th, saw two people injured in a car crash on Interstate 70, which is about three miles from east of Altamont, Illinois. The Illinois State Police identified the persons as Ginorio Migdalia, 56, of West Plains, and a minor female passenger, whose name they withheld.
According to the report by ISP, Migdalia was driving a 2018 Infiniti SUV with the minor as his passenger. They were traveling west on the highway at around Mile 85 when the crash occurred.
An International Tractor-Trailer driven by Derek A. Boxdorfer, 35, merged into Migdalia’s lane and struck his vehicle hard. The older man lost control of the SUV and hit a guardrail.
The older man and his young passenger suffered unspecified injuries and got transported to the HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital. The ISP is investigating the crash but has not cited Boxdorfer for any impairment.
The commercial truck crash is not uncommon in Illinois. One out of three commercial truck drivers suffer from sleep apnea, a condition that affects alertness and performance on the road.
The above is the primary cause of trailer accidents. Other causes include loss of control of the truck, over speeding, lane drifting, and improper maneuvering by drivers.
Victims of accidents involving trailer crashes can bring a civil suit against the person who caused the accident under the personal injury laws of Illinois. A victim’s claim covers hospital bills, loss of livelihood, mental, and emotional stress.
Depending on the injuries sustained, the victim can ask for compensation for the overall quality of life. Victims should hire a competent attorney to represent their interests and get them the best settlement possible.
