A motorcycle accident that happened on Saturday, February 15 in Laredo, was made public to news outlets on Monday. The accident involved 28-year-old Juan M. Guerra III and 19-year-old Jessica Jeanette Vela.
Guerra was on his motorcycle driving westbound on Saunders Street when he crashed into a sedan that was going south on Bartlett Avenue. The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m.
Guerra was taken to a local hospital for his injuries, but they were too extensive. He died from his injuries around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Witnesses who saw the accident told the police that Guerra had been going down the road at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred.
The sedan, driven by Vela had the green light and the right-of-way. Guerra ran the light and directly into Vela’s car, which ejected the man from the motorcycle.
Guerra had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which could have possibly made his injuries worse due to head trauma.
Vela had no signs of injury after the accident. She did not appear to be intoxicated or impaired in any way. She voluntarily gave police a blood sample to confirm this.
The intersection of Bartlett and Saunders was shut down while the police completed their investigation.
They have not confirmed if Guerra had been under the influence at the time of the accident. Any testing done at the hospital has not been released at the present time.
There have been no charges filed against Vela.
