An Illinois man, Keith J. Rucker, 25, got injured on Tuesday, February 18th, after his car rolled over during a chase by the Illinois State Police. The chase started after ISD officers asked the young man to pull over, and he sped away.
The police tried again to get Rucker to pull over on Interstate 57 near mile marker 203. He fled the traffic stop and used the Arcola exit to get away from the officers.
The Douglas County Sheriff, Joshua Blackwell, also tried to get the young man to stop his car, but he fled once again. The police continued chasing him, and he suddenly lost control of his vehicle.
The car rolled four times before coming to a stop, and he and his passenger suffered minor injuries. They both got treated by the paramedic team at the scene after refusing to go to the hospital.
Rucker got arrested immediately by the police and is facing several charges. The police are charging him with fleeing and (or) eluding a police officer, reckless driving, and speeding for more than 24 miles per hour.
The young man is also facing driving with a suspended license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The offenses are all serious under Illinois law, and some are criminal.
Driving with a suspended license is a criminal offence under the Illinois Vehicle Code. It is a Class A misdemeanour and carries a sentence of 364 days in jail and a fine of $2,500, plus mandatory costs awarded by the court.
