One woman is dead following a traffic crash involving a single vehicle that crashed into a tree in Waco, Texas. Accident reports obtained from the state’s Department of Public Safety confirmed that the accident took place at night on Sunday, April 19, and left another victim injured.

The fatal crash took place at about 8:45 pm on FM 185. According to the reports, the deceased woman was riding as the front seat passenger in a Dodge Ram pickup, which encountered an accident near Cattle Drive.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Dodge was traveling along the east traffic lanes on the highway, just east of Crawford. For unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved off the roadway and collided with a tree located off the road.

When emergency responders arrived at the location, they found two casualties, including the front passenger, whom authorities later identified as Mary Harcrow of Central Texas, and the operator of the pickup.

Paramedics declared Mary Harcrow dead at the scene, while the driver, whose name was not disclosed, was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The DPS described the motorist’s injuries as non-life-threatening, according to accident reports.

It was not immediately made clear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the traffic accident.

The fatal wreck is still under investigation by the Waco authorities. Investigators would try to determine what caused the motorist to drive off the freeway and hit the tree, considering factors such as impairment and distracted driving.
