Christopher Jonathan Smedley

A drunk driver crashed his vehicle into patrol vehicles of the Warren police, causing minor injuries to two patrol officers. The two officers were investigating another accident at the time.

According to the details shared by the Warren police, Christopher Jonathan Smedley, 64, of Detroit was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer when he caused the crash. The patrol vehicles were stationed at 10 Mile and Mount roads at the time. One of the police officers was inside the patrol vehicle while the other was standing outside. It was then that Smedley crashed his vehicle into the patrol vehicles, also injuring the officers in the process.

Both officers who were present on site sustained only minor injuries. Smedley was heavily drunk at the time. He smelled of alcohol and when the officers investigated whether he had consumed any alcohol, he admitted to having a number of drinks.

A preliminary breath test conducted on Smedley revealed that his blood alcohol level was quite high. The officers then escorted Smedley to a nearby hospital where a blood sample was taken for testing. This sample was dispatched to the Michigan State Police. Results of the sample show that Smedley’s blood alcohol was high enough to quality the category of ‘super drunk.’

The authorities have brought a single charge of driving with high blood alcohol content. This is a misdemeanor in Michigan and penalties include a jail term of up to 180 days. A second charge of driving without auto insurance has also been brought against Smedley for which he can be sentenced to up to a year in prison.
