With the help of friends, the woman seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver early Monday morning near Bethany Home Road has been identified.

The victim is 55-year-old motorcycle driver Tammy Cowart.

The incident took place just before 5 a.m. on Monday February 24, near 26th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. According to Phoenix Police Department officials, a hit-and-run driver crashed into Cowart and then fled the scene of the accident.

The Phoenix police said the 55-year-old woman was riding a motorcycle at around 4:30 a.m. on Bethany Home Road when she collided with another vehicle. Emergency responders rushed her to the hospital in critical condition. The other driver, had left the scene after the crash by the time emergency responders arrived. It is unknown how long the hit-and-run driver remained at the scene, if at all.
 
Reports indicate that the hit-and-run vehicle is white. It was headed north toward 17 Freeway or the northbound access road of the freeway after colliding with the motorcycle.

Police reported that Cowart was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Cowart has been on life support since arriving at the hospital.  According to Cowart’s friends, unfortunately her condition is not looking good.
