A 26-year-old man was arrested on a pair of murder charges after a crash Saturday night in Tucson that killed two people.
Shane Mabe faces two counts of second-degree murder and charges of aggravated assault, criminal damage and driving under the influence. Authorities said they still are investigating the incident.
Pima County Sheriff’s Department officials at 11 p.m. Saturday responded to a report of a crash on Magee Road at the intersection with Paseo del Norte. A vehicle heading eastbound on Magee Road crashed into a westbound SUV, according to authorities.
Luanna Encinas, 24, and Priscilla Tamez, 41, both were declared dead at the scene, sheriff’s department officials said. They were passengers in the westbound SUV.
Deputies said Mabe, the driver of the eastbound vehicle, was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the SUV, a man whom authorities have not identified publicly, also was hospitalized with serious injuries.
In addition to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, first responders from Northwest Fire District also helped work on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. Online court records don’t yet list any upcoming court appearances for Mabe.
