On Saturday, February 29th, a hit-and-run accident in Pinal County, near Arizona City, Arizona, left a woman dead. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office identified her as Peggy O’Neil, 53.

The accident occurred in the night at about 8 p.m. near the area of Randolph and La Palma roads, South of Coolidge. The police got called to the scene and arrived to find O’Neil lying in her injuries on the roadway.

When the paramedics examined the deceased, they found her unresponsive and pronounced her dead. The driver of the vehicle that struck O’Neil was nowhere in sight, and she and her car remain unidentified.

The police later revealed that a caller told them the deceased woman and an unidentified person were arguing before the accident. The police believe that the crash might have been intentional, and they are still investigating.

They have asked anyone with helpful information on the identity of the driver to contact their office. Hit-and-run accidents are not uncommon in Arizona, and it often leads to fatalities.

Under the state laws, a person involved in an accident is obligated to stop. Not doing so amounts to leaving the scene of an accident, which is a crime, and leads to a hit-and-run charge.

The latter can either be a misdemeanor or a felony and where there’s a death, the offender faces class 2 felony. The offense carries jail time, and the police have to bring a charge against the driver before the statute of limitation elapses.

The standard period is three to four years, except if the offender intentionally hits the victim. In that case, the limitation period gets extended until the police find the offender.
