Multi-Vehicle Crash in Phoenix Kills Fernando A. Hernandez

A man died in a tragic accident involving three vehicles in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday, March 11th. The Phoenix Police Department has identified the man as Fernando A. Hernandez, 54.

The preliminary report of the crash showed that the Phoenix Fire Department responded to a collision call at about 5 p.m. They arrived at the intersection of 7th Street and Dunlap Avenue to find that three vehicles had collided and impaired traffic.

As the firefighters would later discover, a white sedan driven by an unnamed driver was heading south on 7th Street and trying to make a left turn when a truck drove into it. The impact of the crash sent the sedan straight into a white minivan.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The female driver of the sedan also had non-life-threatening injuries, but Hernandez, who was a passenger, died on impact.

The paramedics pronounced him at the scene after finding him unresponsive. The only people who went unscathed are the two occupants of the minivan, whose identities were not released.

The PPD is taking point on the investigation into the crash. So far, there is no indication of impairment on the side of the truck driver, and the police will provide updates as the investigation unfolds.

Under Arizona law, lack of impairment, usually drugs or alcohol, or a combination of both, does not mean a driver who caused an accident will escape liability. Other factors like speeding, distracted driving, or drowsiness will get taken into account to determine whether or not a person is liable.

If there’s evidence of liability, the person will face a criminal trial or a civil lawsuit for damages, depending on the circumstances of the case.
