Cyclist Brandon Rank in Critical Condition After Being Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver

A 40-year-old bicyclist was left in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle around 5 a.m. on Sunday. He has been identified as Brandon Rank.

The collision occurred in the 100 block of South New Road in Waco and the driver didn’t stop at the scene.

Police said they responded to a report and found a bicycle that had been struck but they didn’t see a cyclist right away. On searching the area, they found Rank about 100 feet away.

Brandon Rank was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with significant injuries and his family was notified.

Few details have been revealed about the crash. However, the authorities are looking for a 2011 to 2014 Dodge Avenger that’s dark gray. It may have sustained damage to the right front panel.

Waco police have asked anyone with information about the crash or who may have seen anything suspicious to call 254-750-7500 or to contact Detective Clark at 254-750-3662.

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in Texas. It can result in either a misdemeanor or a felony charge, depending on the damage or injuries caused in the crash.

Leaving the scene of an accident that causes death or serious injury, as was the case in Sunday’s collision, is a felony. It is punishable by two to ten years in prison.

Leaving the scene of a crash resulting in a non-serious injury is a felony that’s punishable by up to one year in prison.
