Beverly A. Longshaw Dies in Coles County Fatal Accident


A two-vehicle accident that took place in rural Coles County resulted in the death of one driver and injuries to the other. The incident took place on Monday, March 16.

According to the details shared in a press release by Coles County Sheriff’s Office, the unfortunate crash took place nearly a mile from Humboldt. It was at an intersection that the two vehicles involved in the crash collided with each other.

One of these vehicles was driven by Carl S. Wagoner, 65, of Arcola. Wagoner was traveling northbound on County Road 700E just before the crash took place. The other vehicle was driven by Beverly A. Longshaw, 52, of Humboldt. Longshaw was traveling westbound on County Road 1700E. At the intersection of the two roads, both drivers failed to yield the way to the other. This resulted in a collision that left both with serious injuries.

When help and rescue personnel arrived on the scene of the crash, they find both vehicles away from the roadway in a field.

Beverly A. Longshaw died from her injuries at the scene of accident and was pronounced dead. Wagoner also incurred serious injuries. He was airlifted in a medical helicopter to the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. By Tuesday, March 17, Wagoner was in stable condition and well on the way to recovery.

The accident took place just before noon. The Coles County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident. In doing so, it is assisted by other law enforcement agencies as well.
