Police on Wednesday arrested a man accused of fleeing the scene of a crash in which a person suffered serious injuries before leading Dallas authorities on a high-speed chase.
Marquis Dampeer, 28, remains held at the Dallas County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest with a vehicle, according to online records. The charges carry a combined bond of $40,000.
Police said Dampeer ran over a person in Seagoville late Tuesday or early Wednesday in Seagoville and fled the scene. Officers tried to stop Dampeer’s truck, but he sped off, refusing to pull over, according to authorities.
The person who was struck by Dampeer’s vehicle was not publicly identified by police. It’s unclear whether he or she sustained injuries and, if so, to what extent.
The chase continued into Dallas, where the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department got involved, according to investigators. Dampeer finally stop the truck near Greenville Avenue and Forest Lane, authorities said.
Dampeer and a woman, who has not been identified by authorities, then reportedly fled the scene on foot. Dampeer was arrested but police were unable to detain the woman.
Online court records do not list any upcoming hearing dates.
