Twenty-two-year-old Demetrious Murphy has died following a crash in the southwest Las Vegas Valley. According to accident reports, the young man was injured on April 14.
However, Las Vegas police said they received news that he died on April 21.
Murphy was riding a 2017 Yamaha YZF-R3 and going west on West Warm Springs Road, heading towards South Cimarron Road when the crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
The motorcycle collided with a 2012 Hyundai Sonata that was making a left turn into its path.
Murphy was transported to St. Rose Dominican San Martin Hospital.
Meanwhile, the other driver, who was not identified, did not complain of any injuries. The person stayed at the scene to talk to police and did not seem to be impaired.
It is not known if the individual will face any charges or citations.
Murphy’s death was the 30th traffic-related fatality investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for the year so far.
In some of the previous cases, the victims’ families may be able to get compensation with help from a car injury lawyer.
This accident remains under investigation and more information could be released in later accident reports.
Transport officials will be waiting to see how the number of car crashes in April compares to the previous month and April 2019.
Preliminary analysis from the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada determined that car crashes in the greater Las Vegas Valley dropped by more than 60 percent in March when compared to the same period in 2019.
Public information officer for the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety said this was a nationwide trend since there are fewer vehicles on the road.
