A woman lost her life in a single-vehicle crash that took place in the Lawrence County on Tuesday, April 28. According to the accident reports surrounding the incident, it was reported to the authorities in the morning.

The victim in the single-vehicle crash was identified by Illinois State Police as Jacqueline A. Rainey, 64, of St. Francisville, Illinois. Rainey was traveling northbound on County Road 800 East when the crash occurred. Just as she had crossed Sand Barrens Lane and was less than a mile north of it, she apparently lost control of the vehicle.

Her car then veered towards the right and left the roadway. Rainey then overcorrected her vehicle and came back on the road before leaving the road once again and hitting a utility pole.

No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the single-vehicle crash. Rainey was the only occupant of the vehicle she was driving at the time. As first responders and law enforcement personnel arrived on the site of the crash, Rainey was transported to an area hospital. However, she couldn’t recover from her injuries and succumbed to them at the hospital. She was pronounced dead the same day.

Illinois State Police continues to investigate the incident. At this point, the focus of the investigations is exactly how the incident took place. It isn’t clear at this point what caused Rainey to lose control of the vehicle before overcorrecting it. Common factors in single-vehicle incident include emergencies caused by a medical condition, speeding and alcohol. It remains to be seen if any of these factors played a role. Subsequent accident reports from ISP may reveal if they did.
