New accident reports obtained from the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed the death of a woman who lost her life after a vehicle she was riding in crashed on a major highway in Lubbock County, Texas. The tragic occurrence was recorded early on Thursday morning, April 30.
According to the DPS reports, the crash happened just south of Lubbock, near Farm-to-Market Road 1585, and involved at least two people, both occupants of the crashed vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a pickup truck, conveying a male and a female, was heading south on US Highway 87, maintaining the left lane.
While in motion, the truck suddenly veered into the dividing line and attempted a swift overcorrection onto the southbound lanes.
The maneuver caused the pickup to spin out of control across the center median into the north lanes on US 87 before leaving the road entirely and plunging into a ditch located off the north shoulder.
Police said the truck was believed to have continued rolling after its descent, before coming to rest on the service road, blocking it off partially.
While the male victim suffered only minor injuries, the other occupant of the truck was fatally injured and was confirmed dead at the scene by responding medics. The decedent was identified as Haley Erin Steele, 29.
According to the accident reports, neither Steele, nor the other unnamed commuter, was restrained at the time of the deadly accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the DPS.
