Authorities have identified the motorcyclist killed Sunday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Cook County.
Andrew Westfallen, 20, of Wonder Lake, died at the scene of the wreck, which was reported at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, according to car accident reports. No other injuries were reported in connection to the crash, Schiller Park Police said in a statement.
Authorities said Westfallen was driving a motorcycle west in the 9500 block of Lawrence Avenue at about 7:45 p.m. According to car accident reports, he collided with a sedan that was turning north on Wesley Terrance from Lawrence Avenue.
Westfallen was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported. An autopsy was conducted, which reportedly determined Westfallen had died as a result of injuries suffered in the wreck.
The driver of the sedan, identified in car accident reports only as a 41-year-old Schiller Park woman, was not injured.
Investigators have not said whether they believe factors such as speed or inattentive driving contributed to the wreck. However, medical examiner’s office officials said his death is considered accidental.
The Illinois National Guard issued a statement after Westfallen’s death. The agency identified him as a private, first-class in the Woodstock-based company.
“Our condolences to the family and friends of (Westfallen),” National Guard officials wrote in a social media statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the soldiers of the Illinois Army National Guard’s D. Co., 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment.”
