Jose Talamantes Charged with Felony Murder after Houston Crash

A drunk driving attorney may be needed after a man identified as Jose Talamantes was arrested and charged in connection with an accident in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, May 3. Police say the suspect was charged with felony murder after attempting to flee the scene of a fatal car crash.

Authorities received distress calls from witnesses of the accident at about 9:30 p.m. and rushed to the scene of the crash on the Southwest Freeway outbound near Harwin, before the Hillcroft exit.

A man driving a Honda car was exiting the freeway when another man driving a Cadillac hit him from behind with a great force. The impact of the hit pushed the Honda into a pillar, causing it to split into two.

The man driving the Honda was ejected from it, following which the Cadillac landed on top of him. Eyewitnesses said the driver of the Cadillac, Jose Talamantes, got out of his vehicle and made to run away from the scene of the crash. However, they ran after him and caught him, while the police took him into custody.

There are investigations ongoing to ascertain if the suspect was driving the Cadillac under the influence when the accident occurred. Sean Teare, an officer at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, said that the suspect was transported to the Joint Processing Center, where he would undergo further evaluation for intoxication.

Teare also said that Talamantes was charged with failure to stop and give aid resulting in death, while he may also face additional charges after investigations. The suspect also has two previous DWIs and would need a drunk driving attorney going forward.
