The Texas Department of Public Safety on Friday, May 8, identified Joshua Hill, 23, as the man that died after crashing his vehicle into a tree during severe weather in Cass County. Accident reports state that the crash occurred at about 6 a.m.

According to the Texas DPS, the deceased was traveling west on Highway 77 in a 1977 Ford during a thunderstorm when the crash happened. Behind him was another driver, a 56-year-old man identified as Maxwell Miller. Miller was driving a 2011 Ford F150. Another individual, Justin Owens, 26, was also traveling east on HWY 77 in a 2017 Ford F150.

Owens stopped in the roadway after hydroplaning. Miller slowed down in front of the victim so that he would avoid a collision with the 2017 Ford driver. However, Hill failed to control the speed of his vehicle, causing him to strike the side of Owens’ Ford. The impact of the collision caused his car to veer off the roadway and strike a tree.

Sergeant Greg Williams of the Texas DPS said that the accident involved a combination of three vehicles but that it was only one of them that left the roadway as a result of visibility issues before it ended up striking a tree.

According to the DPS, only Hill was in his car at the time the crash happened. No other injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

Based on accident reports, many crashes occur during adverse weather. Authorities advise that drivers must drive slowly in bad weather and make sure that their car is in good working condition. If possible, drivers must avoid driving at such times and wait for the weather to become favourable before doing so.
