An accident on Interstate 10, in El Paso, Texas, involving a motorcycle, a car, and a tractor-trailer, left Jose Enrique Herrera, 19, dead. Accident reports indicated that the collision occurred on Monday, May 11. Following the crash, Special Traffic Investigators, in response to calls, assisted officers of the Pebble Hills Regional Command.
A press release revealed that Herrera was traveling on a motorcycle, heading west on I-10. He was riding at high speed and approached Hawkins. In his attempt to overtake a 2015 Chrysler 200, the deceased struck the rear of the car. A 46-year-old Araceli Duran was driving the Chrysler.
Following the collision, Herrera separated from his motorcycle, sliding across the interstate from the third to the first lane. A 36-year-old Tahirt Tasfahsayan, driving a tractor-trailer, approached the crash scene and swerved to avoid striking Herrera. However, the trailer struck the victim.
Jose Enrique Herrera sustained critical injuries as a result of the collisions. Paramedics arrived immediately and rushed him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Motorcyclists must avoid speeding on roads and highways. Motorcycle riders face more dangers on roadways than vehicle drivers and are more likely to die when collisions occur. Based on this, authorities advise that bikers must use helmets and protective gear when riding.
Helmets help in reducing the high death rate of collisions involving motorcycles. Accident reports from the NHTSA showed that in 2017, helmets saved the lives of 1,872 motorcyclists. An additional 749 lives could have been saved if they used head coverings.
