A 17-year-old driver has been arrested by officers of the San Angelo Police Department following an accident on Monday afternoon.
He is Adan Gonzalez, according to local accident reports.
The crash occurred in the area of West Harris Avenue and South Abe Street.
Officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:30 p.m. following reports that a gray 2005 Toyota car had fled the scene of a crash.
A press release from the SAPD said while officers were on the way to the area, they were told the suspect had pulled into a gas station on South Abe Street.
His vehicle had become disabled and he reportedly got out of the vehicle and ran.
An officer found the suspect and commanded that he stop. However, he kept running with the officer in pursuit on foot.
The suspect, later identified as Gonzalez, was eventually apprehended in a parking lot on West Beauregard Avenue.
Police learned that he had rear-ended a Dodge Ram which had stopped at the traffic lights on South Abe and West Harris.
When the driver of the Dodge, a 22-year-old resident of San Angelo spoke to Gonzalez, the teenager reportedly told him not to call the cops and then fled.
The victim was not injured in the crash and he trailed Gonzalez to the gas station, accident reports state.
Gonzalez was at first charged with evading arrest detention. However, after police allegedly found marijuana in his vehicle, he was also charged with possession of the drug.
Gonzalez was also cited for failure to control speed, driving without a license and failing to stop and leave information.
