Thomas Podgorny Injured, Arrested After Chicago Crash That Wounded 2 Others

A Cook County man has been charged with driving under the influence after he crashed his vehicle into a parked trailer Tuesday evening on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

Thomas Podgorny, 25, of Norwood Park, was injured in the crash, which occurred just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sauganash, according to the Chicago Police Department. Two other people also were injured in the wreck, authorities reported.

Podgorny faces charges of driving under the influence and failure to notify damage, as well as citations for failure to carry a driver’s license, operating an uninsured vehicle and failure to reduce speed, police said. A drunk driving attorney likely will assist in Podgorny’s defense.

Police said Podgorny was driving in the 4600 block of West Devon Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when he made a U-turn. Podgorny’s vehicle slammed into a trailer that had been parked along the side of the road.

Two passengers in Podgorny’s vehicle, identified by authorities only as a 22-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the wreck. Local media outlets state the two were listed in fair condition on Wednesday.

Podgorny was arrested shortly after the wreck. He also was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Chicago Police Department. Online records available Wednesday afternoon don’t state whether Podgorny has yet retained the services of a drunk driving attorney.
