Jihad Pollard Crashes After Fleeing Cops

A young man’s efforts to evade police ended with a wreck just after midnight on Friday.

Jihad Pollard, 21, was left with serious injuries, based on accident reports.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit of the Lubbock Police Department is investigating the matter.

The chase had its genesis in a traffic stop. The authorities said a Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputy indicated that Pollard should stop his Toyota Corolla in relation to a traffic violation.

This happened near 82nd Street and Avenue P, according to information from the LPD.

The deputy wanted to arrest Pollard because he had an outstanding warrant, but the young driver fled. A short chase followed as Pollard drove south on the avenue from 82nd Street to 98th Street.

Pollard neglected to stop at the stoplight at 98th Street and was then unable to control his car. The vehicle came to a stop in the field to the west of Avenue P and south of 98th Street after it rolled numerous times.

Pollard was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

It does not appear that anyone else was injured in the incident.

No information has been provided as yet about the charges Pollard is likely to face. Police could reveal further details in the future and updated accident reports will be published.

Coincidentally, a police officer was hurt in an accident in the same area earlier this month. The cop was going east in the 1600 block of 98th Street when a car attempted a left turn onto Avenue P and collided with the patrol car.
