A repeat traffic offender apprehended last weekend after crashing his vehicle in Pontiac, Michigan, has been identified and arraigned. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, May 27, disclosed the suspect’s identity as Corey Robert Carter, 43, of Waterford. Carter was arraigned on Wednesday, and pending results of toxicology tests may have to consult a drunk driving attorney.

The incident which led to the motorist’s arrest happened on the morning of Saturday, May 23. A witness reported a driver who allegedly drove his vehicle off the roadway at about 10:38 a.m. on Dakota Street. The motorist then struck a telephone pole, after which he alighted from his car and fled the scene on a black skateboard, the complainant told police.

The witness described the suspect, and a registration check on the vehicle revealed his home address. Officers made a home call to the Waterford resident, about a quarter-mile from the crash site, and found the culprit, with the skateboard resting on the wall of the building.

As deputies attempted approaching Carter, he reportedly displayed signs of impairment, threatening the lawmen with a car tire. He later assumed a fighting stance and attempted to attack the deputy. Police said the lawman deployed his taser, subduing the culprit before other officers arrived to assist. They took him into custody without further ado.

A search of the crashed vehicle revealed about 88 pills suspected of being opioid Suboxone. They conducted a toxicology test on the suspect to determine his levels of intoxication, but the results are pending.

The culprit faces one felony count of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer. Deputies booked him into the Oakland County Jail, with his next arraignment slated for Tuesday. Additional charges may arise depending on the toxicology results, and the victim would likely require the services of a drunk driving attorney.
