An Arkansas woman faces several citations after a single-vehicle wreck Monday in Effingham County in which five adults and four children were injured, according to authorities.
Forty-year-old Kimyada Hunter, of Marianna, Ark., also was injured in the wreck, which was reported shortly after 7 p.m. Monday on Interstate 57, according to the Illinois State Police. Eight of her passengers – including four kids age 7 or younger – also were hospitalized after the crash, car accident reports state.
Hunter at about 7:10 p.m. Monday was southbound on Interstate 57 near mile marker 157 when she veered off the roadway and crashed, according to authorities. Hunter allegedly told investigators that she was forced to swerve to avoid a crash with another vehicle, which was not identified in car accident reports.
Troopers said Hunter and passengers Deidra Miller, 32, of Bellwood, Markem Clark, 28, of Chicago, and Marianna, Ark., residents Yakita Hunter, 26, and Miracle Hunter, 32, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Three kids aged 2 to 4 also were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Authorities said a 7-year-old passenger was taken via lifeflight to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries.
Authorities cited Kimyada Hunter for operating and uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage. She also faces four citations for failure to secure children in a child restraint device.
Passengers Miller and Clark also were cited for illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to wear a seatbelt, respectively.
