The motorcyclist who died in a multi-vehicle Texas crash on Thursday morning has been identified as 25-year-old Jonathan Husky of Corsicana.

Accident reports say he was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Darrell Waller.

Husky’s identity was confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety following the crash on Interstate Highway 45.

Sgt. Sara Warren said troopers responded to the accident on the southbound side of the highway around 6:55 a.m.

The crash took place near the 242 exit for Calhoun Street in Rice.

Preliminary investigations showed that a Freightliner truck tractor was pulling a flatbed semi-trailer and traveling south in the right-hand lane.

A Yamaha R3 motorcycle driven by Husky was traveling right behind the truck tractor while a Kia Optima was heading south in the middle lane.

For presently unknown reasons, Husky tried to overtake the Freightliner and instead struck the back of the semi-trailer. This sent his motorcycle hurtling down the roadway, ejecting him in the process.

Husky landed in the middle lane of I-45.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Mackenzie Warrens who was driving the Kia was unable to stop in time and hit Husky.

Neither the driver of the Freightliner, 35-year-old Brian Tucker nor Warrens sustained injuries.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Last year, more than 7,500 motorcycle accidents occurred in Texas and 406 of them resulted in a death. On average, ten people die on the state’s roads each day and one of them is a motorcyclist.

Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable on the roads because their vehicles are small, and they have little to protect them when they come into contact with a larger vehicle.
