Police have released the name of the bicyclist killed Saturday morning when he was struck by an SUV in Scottsdale.
Miodrag Milovanovic, 48, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital shortly after the crash, which occurred on East Happy Valley Road on Saturday, according to the Scottsdale Police Department. It is unclear from car accident reports available Monday whether anyone else was injured as a result of the incident.
Police said Milovanovic was riding his bike on the shoulder of Happy Valley Road near 91st Street on Saturday morning. Car accident reports released by Scottsdale authorities don’t provide an exact time the crash occurred.
At the same time, a person driving an SUV on Happy Valley Road drifted onto the shoulder, authorities said. The driver, who was not identified in car accident reports, struck Milovanovic’s bicycle.
Milovanovic was transported to a nearby hospital by emergency medical personnel. However, he soon was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries, authorities said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Scottsdale Police Department. Authorities did not say Monday whether they suspect the involvement of contributing factors like speed or inattentive driving, though they did tell local media outlets that intoxication likely did not play a role in the wreck.
No charges or citations had been announced by Scottsdale authorities as of Monday afternoon. Authorities also did not say whether the SUV driver was injured.
