Nearly a year after a drunk driver crashed his vehicle and caused a chain-reaction accident in Las Vegas, Nevada, he is set to receive a jail sentence. Daniel Lovato pleaded guilty to one count of driving under the influence causing substantial bodily harm, on Wednesday, May 24, following probable recourse with a drunk driving attorney.
The crash occurred last summer, on July 23, in the area of Stewart Avenue and Christy Lane. Officers said no fewer than five vehicles were involved in the crash, which left one motorist in critical condition.
Court papers showed the incident involved a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by Lovato along Stewart Avenue. The Chevrolet crashed into the rear-side of a 2006 Mercedes Benz Sedan observing a stop sign at the intersection. The initial crash caused the struck car to slam into other vehicles stopped at the red light, causing the chain-reaction effect.
A witness confirmed seeing a little vodka bottle inside the suspect’s vehicle. When police attempted to carry out a breathalyzer test on the man, he resisted. Court documents revealed Lovato also failed field sobriety tests, raising suspicions of impairment. Deputies then took the victim to a hospital to test his blood/alcohol levels. Police records failed to disclose the results.
Following his court appearance on Wednesday, and months of convening with a drunk driving attorney, the suspect would likely be sentenced on September 23.
