Authorities said a two-vehicle wreck Saturday morning in Van Zandt County claimed the life of a utility vehicle operator.
Charles R. Easley, 73, of Eustace, was pronounced dead shortly after the wreck, which occurred just before noon on FM 1861, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported. One other person suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization, according to car accident reports.
Authorities said Easley was driving a UTV on FM 1861 at 11:42 a.m. Saturday about four miles outside Eustace. Christina S. Zark, 51, of Eustace, also was headed east on FM 1861 behind Easley, according to car accident reports.
Zark allegedly moved to the westbound lane to pass Easley at the same time Easley was attempting to make a left turn on Van Zandt County 2908. The two vehicles collided and Easley’s UTV rolled, causing him to be partially ejected, according to car accident reports.
Easley, who was not restrained in his UTV, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds. Zark was treated at the scene but was not hospitalized, according to car accident reports.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the incident. Authorities have not said whether they believe contributing factors, such as intoxication, inattentive driving or speeding, were involved in the wreck.
No citations or criminal charges have been announced in connection to the incident.
