William Bishop Detained After Causing DUI Collision and Killing One Near Hebron

Elver Cruz

A man is in police custody for causing a two-vehicle collision last month while driving under the influence of alcohol in the Hebron area of McHenry County, Illinois. The McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the suspect on Monday afternoon, June 8, on DUI-related charges, which calls for the intervention of a drunk driving attorney.

The crash leading to the drunk driver’s arrest happened on Monday, May 18. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Department dispatched deputies to the 1500 block of Vanderkarr Road after witnesses notified them of the incident. Callers reported a collision between a wrong-way vehicle and a cargo van.

Initial reports provided by the MCSD suggested that the suspect, William Bishop, 42, of Chicago, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on Vanderkarr. The jeep suddenly crossed the center line and veered into the east lanes of travel. It continued sideways into the east shoulder, where it collided head-on with an oncoming Chevrolet Cargo Van.

The impact of the collision caused severe injuries to Bishop and the two occupants of the eastbound van. First responders pronounced the driver of the cargo van, Jason E. Miller, 41, dead at the scene. Miller’s passenger and the jeep operator received transportation to a hospital for medical aid.

MCSD records confirm that at about 3:25 p.m. on Monday, barely two weeks after the crash, deputies booked Bishop into the McHenry County Jail. He faces charges of murder, aggravated driving under the influence, aggravated reckless driving, reckless homicide, and aggravated battery.

Motorists facing charges in connection with a DUI traffic collision should contact a drunk driving attorney for representation.
