Jawon Mckaskill Dies In Head-On Crash In Phoenix

Authorities have released the name of the man killed in a two-vehicle head-on wreck Monday morning in Phoenix.

Twenty-three-year-old Jawon McKaskill was pronounced dead at a hospital not long after the crash, which occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Phoenix Police Department. The other driver involved in the crash was injured as well, car accident reports state, though his wounds aren’t believed to be life-threatening.

Police said McKaskill was driving west on Broadway Road near 43rd Street at about 7:30 a.m. Monday when his vehicle drifted across the centerline. His vehicle crashed head-on with an oncoming pickup truck, according to car accident reports.

McKaskill was transported to a hospital to be treated for serious injuries, emergency medical services personnel reported. However, he was pronounced dead from his wounds not long after the crash.

The other driver, whom authorities did not publicly identify, suffered injuries that were not thought to be serious, police said. The roadway was closed for some time as investigators worked at the debris-laden scene of the wreck.

The Phoenix Police Department continues to investigate the incident. They have not said what they believe led McKaskill to lose control of his vehicle and drift into oncoming traffic. It is unclear whether investigators suspect the involvement of factors such as intoxication or excessive speed.

No citations or charges have been announced by authorities. It is unclear whether any are expected.
