Two drivers and their passengers survived a rear-ended collision in Salem, Illinois, on Thursday, June 11th. The Illinois State Police disclosed the motorists’ names as Rachel Anne Clark, 45, Jeanette L. Baker, 57, both residents of the city.

The accident report disclosed that the collision took place at 8:17 a.m. on Illinois 37 southbound CJ Heck Road. The police said Baker, who was driving a green 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, heading south on I-37, approaching Heck stopped because of a Salem Township road crew coming from the second roadway.

After the road cleared, the driver continued south, and Baker, driving a black 1995 GMC Sierra rear-ended her. Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening wounds, and first responders airlifted them to an area hospital for treatment.

The passengers of both vehicles identified as Michael Clark, 48, and Annette Lynn, 38, both of Salem sustained minor wounds and received treatment at the same area hospital. The police cited Clark for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, expired driver’s license, and no insurance.

The ISP did not release any additional information, and the investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Speeding is one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in Illinois. The state frowns at drivers who disobey traffic rules by going over the legal speed limit and uses a point system to determine the punishment an offender deserves. It includes payment of fines and suspension of driving privileges for repeat offenders within a year.
