A single-vehicle crash in Grundy County, Illinois, killed 66-year-old William Klegman on Thursday, June 25th. The accident occured on Pine Bluff Road, and the car accident report disclosed that the victim veered off the roadway.
According to the press release by the Grundy County Coroner’s Office, Klegman was eastbound on the roadway when he entered the ditch east of Illinois Route 47. The preliminary investigation uncovered that the victim was traveling at slow speed, and might have suffered from a medical condition.
Responding paramedics transported Klegman to Morris Hospital, where he passed away at about 8:44 p.m. There is currently no additional information.
Several factors lead to a motor vehicle accident: distracted driving, speeding, running red lights, and sometimes an underlying medical condition. The latter covers a wide range of illnesses that inhibits a driver’s strength, agility, coordination, judgment, knowledge, or attention.
Complications from diabetes mellitus can cause any of the above as the pancreas produces too little or zero insulin. If the condition is severe, the person suffering from it can pass out, and if in transit at the time, he or she may cause a crash. Another medical condition is seizure; it is a sudden uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain that occurs when certain nerve cells misfires.
A heart attack — when blood flow to the heart gets blocked, usually by a blood clot — is another medical factor that affects a driver in transit. Another is impaired vision, and it happens mostly when a person suddenly loses his or her cognitive ability when in transit.
