Samantha Grinnell and Three Others Injured in Sterling Auto Collision

Four people sustained injuries in a two-vehicle collision that happened on Monday night, June 29th, in Sterling, Illinois. The car accident report disclosed that it involved 21-year-old Samantha Grinnell of Freeport and an unnamed 17-year-old female driver.

According to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene of the crash — the intersection of Freeport Road and Fulfs Road — at about 7:12 p.m. In a press release, the investigators said that Grinnell was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 northbound on FR, and at the same time, the teenage driver stopped at a stop sign on Fulfs.

The sheriff’s office said that the teenager did not yield the right of way to Grinnell, who was entering the intersection. The woman was unable to avoid the crash and struck the driver’s side of the teen’s KIA. The two drivers and two 17-year-old passengers in the second vehicle sustained injuries.

The medics transported them to CGH Medical Center for treatment. The WCSO handled the preliminary investigation, and they had the assistance of the Illinois State Police, Sterling Fire Department, CGH EMS, and Rock Falls EMS.

Failure to yield is a traffic offense in Illinois, and offenders who get cited must appear in court to answer for the offense. The state’s law provides that when two drivers are approaching an intersection from different sides of the road, the one on the left must yield the right of way to the driver on the right. Disobeying the law often causes collisions that sometimes end fatally.
