Ex-Congressman Allen West Injured in Motorcycle Crash

Former Republican Congressman Allen West suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle crash in Texas on Saturday.

According to accident reports, the crash happened near Waco around 5 p.m. after he spoke at the Texas Freedom Rally in Austin.

West was in stable condition on Sunday morning based on a post on his Facebook page.

The candidate for chair of the Republican Party of Texas was riding a motorcycle when a car reportedly cut him off.

This caused a collision between West and another motorcyclist. The rider in front reportedly tried to brake while the one behind crashed into the first.

West and the other individual were taken to Baylor Scott & White Health in Waco by helicopter.

The former congressman was left with multiple lacerations, a concussion and multiple bone fractures, the post said.

There was no word on the other motorcyclist except that their injuries were not life-threatening.

West was quoted as saying that he was alive by the grace of God.

He is expected to be released on Monday.

It is not known whether the driver involved will be cited or charged or whether the motorcyclists will take legal action against them. This could come in later accident reports.

West’s team said he planned to resume his calendar of activities when his medical team gives clearance.

West is a retired lieutenant colonel in the Army. He was elected to Congress in November 2010 and lost his seat after one term as Florida’s representative.
