A Zion woman has been charged for a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Although the accident itself occurred back in early June, the woman was formally charged only now and was jailed on Wednesday, July 15. She was identified as Linda J. Ray aged 47 as per the preliminary accident reports.
According to the details shared by the authorities, the fatal hit-and-run for which Ray is being charged took place on June 4. Ray was traveling in a 2015 black Cadillac SUV at the time. As she drove through the 3600 block of North Lewis Avenue, she collided with a bicyclist. The bicyclist was traveling wrong-way, heading southbound in the northbound lanes.
As a result of the collision, the bicyclist sustained critical injuries. Linda J. Ray fled the scene of the accident instead of staying, helping the bicyclist and informing the authorities. When the first responders and law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene of the crash, they found the bicyclist badly injured and lying on the roadway. He was identified as Chad Aiello, 37, of Kenosha. Aiello subsequently died from his injuries at an area hospital.
Although the bicyclist was traveling wrong-way at the time and was the negligent party, Ray fled the scene of a fatal accident which is a serious crime. She has now been charged and her bail has been set at $100,000. Authorities also found, following the early investigations that the SUV Ray was driving was not registered in her name. Subsequent accident reports may reveal whether Ray gets a prison term or is able to get away with a fine.
