28-year-old Demetreus Morrison lost his life on Wednesday, July 22nd, after a multiple-vehicle crash in Phoenix, Arizona. On Thursday, July 23rd, the Phoenix Police Department released details of the crash that involved three vehicles.
Sgt. Margaret Cox said in the press release by the department that the collision occurred near 32nd Avenue and Broadway. The accident report placed Morrison behind the wheels of a Dodge Challenger eastbound on Broadway from 35th.
At the same time, a Dodge Charger headed in the same direction on the same roadway, and a third vehicle was turning into a private driveway. The victim tried to avoid crashing into the turning vehicle but ended up striking the Charger. Both cars then went off the roadway, with the Challenger hitting a Jeep Cherokee parked on the south side of the road.
The Charger then struck a utility pole. Witnesses told the police that the two cars were traveling at top speed. The crash’s impact left Morrison with fatal wounds, and paramedics with the Phoenix Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle identified as a 28-year-old male, did not sustain any wound.
Cox said that the man remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The PPD ruled out intoxication as a factor in the crash, and they are keeping the inquiry open. There is no additional information.
Speed is one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths. Drivers must maintain the legal speed limit at all times to prevent collisions and adverse legal consequences.
