A grand jury in Grundy County, Illinois, indicted a female driver who killed a motorist in a traffic accident in June. Alexis Garbi. 24, of Verona, was indicted on Wednesday, August 5th, on four felony charges, including a charge of aggravated use of an electronic communication device. She would be a top accident lawyer’s service.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office said that on Sunday, June 2nd, they responded to a two-vehicle collision report at the intersection of West Grand Ridge and South Verona Road. Sheriff Ken Briley said that when they arrived, they worked with other first responders to extricate the victim, 65-year-old Ellen Hackl from her vehicle.
The car was on fire at the time. Medics airlifted the woman to an area hospital, and on Wednesday, June 19th, she passed away while receiving treatment at Loyola University Medical Center.
The sheriff said that their investigation uncovered that Garbi was conducting a Facetime call on her electronic communication device while driving. The act caused her to collide with Hackl’s vehicle. After the occurrence, the police cited her for disobeying a stop sign and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office arrested Garbi on a warrant and later released her after posting a $20,000 bail bond. There is no information on when she would appear in court, and the GCSO will release an update as events unfold. If found guilty, the woman would face severe punishment, including time in prison.
