Teen Boy Everick Howard Dies in I-290 Crash

A teenage boy lost his life in a fatal incident that occurred on the Interstate 290 over the weekend. The victim was identified by the authorities as Everick Howard, 15, of Austin as per the accident reports.

According to the Illinois State Police, the tragic incident occurred on Sunday, August 16. Howard was traveling in a 2002 white Chevrolet with another teen. The other teen, identified as a 17-year-old boy, was driving the vehicle at the time. While driving westbound on the I-290, the teen driver seems to have lost control of the vehicle close to the Austin Boulevard.

As a consequence, the Chevrolet flipped over during which Everick Howard was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained critical injuries in the collision. Once the paramedics and first responders arrived on the scene of the crash, Howard was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, he couldn’t recover from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The other teen who was driving the vehicle sustained non-critical injuries in the incident. He was also transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The incident occurred at about 12:40 a.m. on Sunday. When the law enforcement personnel arrived on the site of the crash, two lanes of the highway were closed to traffic. This was done so that on-site investigations could be conducted. The lanes were reopened a few hours later at 6 a.m.

ISP continues to investigate the incident. It remains to be seen how the accident occurred and whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Subsequent accident reports may reveal a clearer picture of the incident.
