A man sustained injuries in Watson Township, Illinois, on Monday, August 17th, after a solo car crash. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office revealed the man’s name in the car accident report as Benjamin J. Swanson, 30, of Dieterich.

According to the sheriff’s office, at about 6:45 p.m., the victim operated a white 1999 Ford F-150 on westbound 875th Road at 1600th Street. Swanson passed a vehicle going downhill, causing his truck to skid. He lost control and ran off the road to the left.

The vehicle went down a ditch into a creek and overturned landing on the passenger side. Swanson sustained incapacitating injuries, and medics airlifted him to Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. The police cited him for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. There is no additional information at this moment.

Under Illinois law, a driver must use caution when passing another vehicle. On a two-lane highway, the left lane should be free and clear to enable drivers coming from a distance to pass without mishap. Avoid turning back into the right path until the vehicle passed is seen in the rearview mirror.
