Motorcycle Rider Killed in Minooka Labor Day Collision Identified as Larry Walker

The 34-year-old man from Joliet killed in a Labor Day collision in Minooka, Illinois, has been identified by the Grundy County Coroner’s Office. On Tuesday, September 8th, Coroner John Callahan named Larry Walker as the fatal victim.

Callahan said that the man died at the scene of the accident on Monday, September 7th. The accident report showed that it occurred at the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and McLinden Road. Before the collision, Walker traveled with a group of motorcycle riders along the northbound stretch of McLinden.

The coroner said that the victim accelerated and rode ahead of the other motorcyclists. At about 6 p.m., he arrived at a stop sign at McLinden but failed to stop. Walker then collided with the side of a van traveling west on U.S. Route 6.

The force of the collision threw Walker from his bike, and he landed on the roadway. Callahan said he sustained fatal wounds despite wearing a helmet. The investigation into the occurrence remains active under the coroner’s office’s purview and the Minooka Police Department.

Helmets go a long way in preventing traumatic brain injuries when a motorcycle accident occurs, but fatalities are still common among bike riders. Motorcyclists must wear a helmet compliant with the guidelines of the United States Department of Transportation.

The helmet should have a face and eye protection and have adequate inlet and outlet for air. Fasten it correctly on the head, and add protective apparel like leather outfits, full-fingered gloves, and ankle-length boots.
