Ty. A. Orvis Ticketed Following an Accident Involving Alexis Dodson in Danville

One of the accident reports from the Danville area of Illinois released on Sunday, September 13th, revealed that one person got cited following a two-vehicle collision. The Danville Police Department said that Ty A. Orvis, a city resident, got cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The report did not state the events leading to the accident, but it disclosed that Orvis collided with a vehicle driven by Alexis M. Dodson of Oakwood. It happened at about 2:47 p.m. at the intersection of North Bowman Avenue and Myers Street. There is no additional information.

Speed is one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in Illinois and other parts of the United States. Although getting a ticket for speeding is a petty offense punishable by a $1000 fine, it could be a more severe punishment that would affect the offender’s driver’s license and insurance.

Drivers get a ticket when a police officer arrives at the scene after an accident and decides fault within minutes. To prove a charge of failure to reduce speed, the prosecutors must show that the offender was driving a public highway vehicle.

Second, the prosecutor must prove that the offender collided with a person or vehicle on a highway, and thirdly, the person did so in violation of his or her duty to use due care. Other factors required to prove the offense are road conditions or whether there was an equipment issue.
