Lothar Wagner Charged with DUI Following Motorcycle Crash in Crystal Lake

On Tuesday, September 22nd, the Crystal Lake Police Department disclosed that they arrested and charged a motorcycle rider who crashed while driving under the influence in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Lothar Wagner, 60, would need representation from a drunk driving attorney.

The police said that the incident happened on Saturday, September 19th, around 5:29 p.m. at the intersection of Fair Oaks Lane and Elmwood Avenue. The preliminary investigation uncovered that Wagner traveled eastbound on Fair Oaks in a 1994 Honda Motorcycle.

Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said that the suspect lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to fall on its side. The Crystal Lake resident sustained severe injuries, and medics conveyed him to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry for treatment.

Kotlowski said that medical personnel then transferred Wagner using a helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The investigators determined that the man drove while intoxicated and charged him with a count of DUI, a Class A misdemeanor.

The crash led to the police shutting down the affected roadway for about two and a half hours while the CLPD Major Accident Investigation team investigated and cleared debris from the scene. There is no additional information.

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a severe offense in Illinois punishable with imprisonment and payment of fines amid other penalties. Road users must operate their vehicles with less than .08% blood alcohol concentration, and if impaired, seek alternative means of transportation.
