Police Officer Injured in Motorcycle Accident


California Highway Patrol has reported that a Newport Beach motorcycle police officer is receiving treatment for injuries received in a motorcycle accident midday Monday.

Around 11:15 a.m., the officer was headed west on Ford Road when he came into contact with another vehicle, an Oldsmobile Cutlass, which was turning left across westbound Ford Road into Newport Hills Drive. As the officer proceeded through the intersection and the Cutlass made the left turn, the two collided.

According to reports, the driver of the Cutlass, a 77-year-old male, is uninjured. The unnamed officer has been taken to an area hospital with several injuries, including cuts to the face and a broken leg. He was described as being in serious condition.
