A body surfer who died on Friday has now been identified as Monte Valentin, a 50 year old man of Lawndale. The Orange County Coroner’s Office identified the victim after he died in Hoag Memorial Hospital, just an hour after the actual recreation accident took place. Valentin was body surfing on Friday at the Wedge, which is known as a popular surfing spot by people in the area. According to reports, the the surf was as high as 20 feet when Turner was thrown into nearby rocks on the beach, at around 12:24 pm. A witness described the wave that caught Valentin as “big.” A rescue boat was dispatched and reached the rocks, removing the man and then attempting CPR, but the man unfortunately died later.
