Bicyclist Nicole Hicks Killed While Crossing Street In Phoenix

Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was fatally struck by a vehicle Sunday night while attempting to cross the street at a Phoenix intersection.

Nicole Hicks, 35, was pronounced dead at an area hospital after the incident, which was reported at about 7 p.m. Sunday, according to the Phoenix Police Department. No other injuries in connection to the crash are listed in car accident reports available Monday evening.

Police said Hicks was riding her bike near 32nd Street and Broadway Road at about 7 p.m. Sunday. Car accident reports state Hicks entered the crosswalk at Broadway Road, where she was struck by a pickup truck that was heading south on 32nd Street.

Emergency medical personnel transported Hicks to an area hospital, but she ultimately succumbed to her wounds, authorities said.

The driver of the truck was pulling a horse trailer at the time of the crash, police said. The driver, whom authorities did not publicly identify, was issued a citation for running a red light, police told local media outlets.

The driver remained at the scene after striking Hicks and was cooperative with investigators, according to car accident reports. The incident remains under investigation, though police said they do not believe impairment was a contributing factor in the wreck.

It’s unclear whether additional charges or citations are forthcoming. Any new developments will be detailed in future car accident reports.
