On Tuesday February 25, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office filed three counts of endangerment charges against a man accused of drunk driving and killing two people.
The accident occurred in October 2018 near Alma School Road in Maricopa. Police said Collin Reeves ran a red light and collided into Audrianne Dillard and Jesel Torres who were making a left turn.
Both individuals and a dog traveling with them were killed in the accident.
Until now, no charges had ever been filed against Collin Reeves, accused of driving drunk when he struck and killed Audrianne and Jesel Torres in October of 2018. In 2018, prosecutors said differing witness accounts, and the loss of two witnesses led to the decision not to file felony manslaughter charges in this case.
In 2018, a spokesperson for the victims’ families said they were not giving up hope and appealed to Salt River Police and the Attorney General’s office to see if they could give the case another look.
The families wanted Reeves to be charged with manslaughter. Salt River Police suggested manslaughter charges, but there simply wasn’t enough evidence for conviction. Reeves could not be charged with DUI because the statute of limitations had already passed.
Reeves is expected to have his initial appearance on March 16, 2020 at the Southeast Mesa courthouse.
